…because I was consuming a lot of it! Up until Sunday, I was pretty sick with something resembling The Consumption. And let me tell you: being sick does wonders for a food budget.
I know I bought my $25 CSA on Monday and cooked a “thank you” dinner for a friend that night with $10 worth of organic chicken breast ($5 of which I ate, even though I really wasn’t too hungry) and a $1.99 head of lettuce. The rest of the dinner came from my CSA items. Tonight I had a $9 burger and this morning I had an $8 breakfast. Clearly, I needed to get out of the house today.
If that’s everything (and I think it is!) that puts me ONE DOLLAR under budget! I will, however, admit that I had an unfair advantage this week because I was sick.
But here’s one for you: a Sudafed-induced foray into the real world led me to the Asian market over the weekend where I bought $22 worth of items I’ll someday experiment with (mostly different kinds of noodles and hot sauces) but did not consume this week. I guess I’ll just count each towards the week I actually use it? Or did I have another FAIL?
Next week’s challenge: I’m almost out of balsamic vinegar.

hmmm…. i guess it depends on if the experiment/challenge is “can i only eat $50 worth of food this week” or if it is “what if i only had $50 to spend on food. period.”
that sucks that you’re sick - hope you feel better soon!
