Kansas City: Emily Farris

Emily Farris
Emily Farris has kobe beef burger tastes and a McDonald’s budget.
A Missouri native, Emily grew up eating casseroles. After moving to Brooklyn in 2000, she began to make her own, and learned that her mother’s green bean casserole was, in fact, not her mother’s—it was the Durkee Onion recipe. Since this devastating revelation, she has committed her life to creating and discovering original casserole recipes and her Annual Casserole Party has been featured in The New York Times, The New York Sun, The New York Post, Time Out New York and Gawker. Her first cookbook, “Casserole Crazy: Hot Stuff for Your Oven” was published by Penguin in October 2008.
When not slaving over casseroles in the kitchen, Emily is a freelance writer and edits the culture blog Scanner for Nerve.com. She has written for Gourmet.com, Edible Brooklyn, Slashfood.com, The New York Sun, The Huffington Post, The Kansas City Star, Women’s Wear Daily, The Pitch, The Brooklyn Paper and Nerve, as well as numerous publications and websites most Americans have never heard of, including her own blog at eefers.com.
Emily recently escaped New York and now lives in a ridiculously large apartment in Kansas City, MO with her cat, her dog and her well-stocked liquor cabinet (because she has room for a liquor cabinet).
Five things that are always in Emily’s kitchen:
1. Whole wheat elbow pasta
2. Freshly grated parmesan cheese
3. Brussels sprouts
4. Cascadian Farm frozen sweet peas
5. Apples
